We all have different parts of ourselves. Let’s say I’m at home in my PJs, and a friend calls and invites me to a bar. Part of me thinks, yes, sounds great, let's go! And the other part says, “no, I want to stay home in my PJs and watch a movie”. Reparenting is making space for the child ego state to be heard and validated. As we do this, we naturally start to access and develop our loving, functional inner mother/father to lovingly parent the child during moments of present-day or remembered stress and trauma. Having fun might sound simple, but for so many of us, the ability to relax and have fun was drilled out of us in childhood. If you grew up in an environment where you were in constant fight or flight, …

Integration

Jennifer June 21, 2022

As children, we are complete, whole and unique. As we become socialised by our parents, we learn that parts of us are not acceptable. In response, we disown parts of us that are disliked or we think are wrong. In …

The Art Of Self-Care

Jennifer June 21, 2022

When discussing self-care with my clients, I like to start with the basics. Are you getting enough sleep?  How much is enough sleep? Everyone is different, but I believe there is a minimum requirement for most people. A few years …

Validation Sounds like: That DID happen to you You didn’t deserve to be shamed You didn’t deserve to be ignored You didn’t deserve to be abused You didn’t deserve to be hurt I am so sorry that happened to you

Validation

Jennifer June 19, 2022

The inner child needs to be validated. They need to have THEIR version of reality validated by you. Suppose your inner child has been told for years that she is ‘too sensitive’ to all the fighting that went on in …
