How to Have a Conversation with Someone You Are Worried About

A guide on how to supportively approach a conversation with someone you are worried about regarding suicide.

If you’re worried about someone and want to start a conversation, here is a simple pocket guide for how to have that conversation.

What NOT to Do

  • Do not try to talk them out of suicide
  • Do not try to fix their problem — focus on listening with openness
  • Do not dismiss it as attention seeking — take their pain seriously

If you are considering suicide, or you know someone who is, please reach out for help.
