The Art Of Self-Care

When discussing self-care with my clients, I like to start with the basics.

Are you getting enough sleep?

How much is enough sleep? Everyone is different, but I believe there is a minimum requirement for most people. A few years ago, I had the fantastic opportunity to be at a seminar taught in Sydney by the Dalai Lama.

In one segment, he talked about sleep. As such an advanced teacher, I thought he was about to tell us that he only needed 2 or 3 hours a night. But no! He said to have a clear mind, the body needs a minimum of EIGHT hours. That was a relief because I know I need at least 8 hours a night, more if possible.

Are you receiving life force through your food?

I like to think of food in two categories, ‘alive food’ and ‘dead food’. Doritos are ‘dead food’, and an apple is ‘alive food’, which makes me sad because I love cheese Doritos. To be healthy, we must eat highly nutritious ‘alive food’. We put great energy in and have a better chance of getting great energy out. That often looks like having a clearer mind, more energy for life, and more emotional stability.

What else did you do yesterday to self-care?

Me – I went for a walk in the sun.
