One way to assist compassionate thinking is to imagine what you would want for yourself if you were in someone else’s shoes. Or to imagine what someone else might have gone through and how it might have left them feeling.
This can be a powerful practice when we experience judgement. To wonder what the other person has gone through, how the environment they have been raised in might have affected them.
It’s interesting that as a culture we have a lot of compassion for innocent children who are growing up in abusive homes, but once these children become teenagers who act out and are aggressive, there is no compassion. The dialogue changes completely.
I wonder where compassion could be helpful to you right now? What group of people or person could you send compassion to?
In loving kindness, Jen????
