Phase 1 of the trauma healing work is called ‘safety and stabilization’. During this phase of the work, we are helping the client to create safety in their inner and outer lives. This work is difficult when there are genuine risks to their safety in the community they live in. Yes, we can help to create inner safety and self-trust, but what about outer safety?
It is easy to look at target groups and view them as ‘too vocal’, ‘too angry’ or ‘too…whatever’ when their daily experiences lack safety. That might be name-calling in the street or the threat of being arrested, imprisoned, or shot by police when you are going about your day-to-day business.
We cannot separate the individual from their environment.
Big, big hugs to everyone today.
Much love, Jen
