Healing Shame through Journalling

When we experience shame, our gut reaction is usually to run as fast as we can in the other direction. In the moment, this might be the safest thing to do, but after the moment has passed it can be productive to re-visit what happened and the feeling of shame that came with it.

WHY? Why re-visit such an uncomfortable feeling? To start to shift it. If we have a consistent experience with a feeling, and we continue to avoid it, we get angry with ourselves and punish ourselves, or we become angry with other people and punish them. Maybe we isolate and hide or push the feelings down with drugs or alcohol.

Pausing and examining the feeling of shame, its origins, its power, and how you deal with it, can be incredibly enlightening.

I hope you find the journal prompts above useful in your healing journey.

Have a great weekend,
