Today we found these beautiful yellowtail clownfish living in a large sea anemone. They swam up to check us out and came right up to the underwater camera. Their anemone was far from shore, so I’m guessing they haven’t seen many snorkelers.
Floating on the surface, I watched them rub themselves against the anemone. The gentle swaying of the anemone, the fish, and the water created a rhythmic rocking. Listening to the slow sound of my breath moving in and out of the snorkel, it felt like visiting another planet — being gifted a moment with another precious creature.
I marvel at the beauty here in Vanuatu. The coral, the fish, the deep greens, and the bright smiles of the local people. I’m struck by how everyone seems to know one another, even in the capital, Port Vila. Drivers wave and smile as they pass. There’s a sense of community, of life moving at island pace. Life feels simple. People look out for and care for one another.
This slowing down has been such a blessing for my whole family. What a gift.
If you ever have the chance to visit, come to Vanuatu — and tag me in your pictures.
Love, Jen 🐠🐠
