You are all Star Dust

There is something about this idea that gives me relief. To know that you and I are made up of the same cosmic matter. That the elements that make up your body:

  • Oxygen 65%
  • Carbon 18.5%
  • Hydrogen 9.5%
  • Nitrogen 3.2%
  • Calcium 1.5%
  • Phosphorus 1%
  • Potassium 0.4%
  • Sulphur 0.3%
  • Sodium 0.2%
  • The Rest 0.4%

We’re formed inside of ancient stars.

When you look at the stars and remember this, does it change how you perceive the stars and your connection to them?

When you remember this and look at your friend, does it change how you perceive them?

When you remember this and look at your enemy, does it change how you perceive them?

When I remember this I feel more connected to everything around me – all made out of atoms, all from stars. I feel less afraid. And I have a sense of continuity that brings me peace. I can exhale.

Do you resonate with this?

"Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded, and the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust."
