In this episode, I explore what might happen in your EMDR therapy sessions. Although this will differ with every therapist, my aim is to give you an overview of what might happen because sometimes we have scared parts that want to know exactly what we are signing up for.
Francine Shapiro initially developed EMDR therapy in the eighties to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). But now, it is used in various situations like phobias, anxiety issues, stress reduction, pain management, and even dermatological conditions. In this episode, I walk you through the standardised eight-phase treatment process so you can know what to expect in a session.
EMDR is one of the foundations of my clinical practice, and I receive it in my own therapy and have found it to be really effective, so I trained in it and use it with my clients.
