How do you know when your worry about a child has become excessive? A certain amount is usually considered normal, but when might it be detrimental to you or your child? Let’s tackle you first – if you find yourself catastrophising and worrying that something terrible will happen, or if you are struggling to think about anything else, struggling to sleep, that’s the right time to get some support. When might this excessive worry be detrimental to your child? Well, if you are really worried about their safety and you start to limit their play and exploration, they might start to feel that the world is dangerous and feel a need to stay close to you because they start to believe the world is dangerous and they are vulnerable in it. The child might also limit their play to keep you calm, and this is something to watch out for. Therapy is a great way to get to the bottom of excessive worry and anxiety.
