Dissociation is our mind’s way of coping with overwhelming trauma. When too much happens too fast, our system can’t process it all at once. It’s like the trauma gets frozen in our minds and bodies. To protect us, a part of our mind steps in and says, “This is too much to handle right now, let’s escape.” When this becomes a daily need, this protective mechanism grows stronger and more frequent, leading to dissociation.
Understanding why dissociation happens is empowering. It helps us realize that our mind is trying to protect us. With awareness and support, we can heal and find healthier ways to cope. You are not alone on this journey.
If you have any questions about dissociation, let me know in the comments.
