Morning Ritual

Over the last two weeks, I’ve been refining my morning ritual to include more ayurvedic principles. Much of my morning routine has been in place for over five years, but I find I need to adjust it now and again, and now is one of those times.

I have been learning more about the practice of Ayurveda, a Sanskrit word that means “science of life.” It is one of the world’s oldest whole-body healing systems, and it works for my body. I have been listening to vitalveda’s excellent podcast and reading dr vasantlad’s seminal book, “Ayurveda: the Science of Self-Healing.” I have been experimenting with Ayurvedic food and even made ghee last week (it’s delicious, and I’m pretty proud of myself).

As I have been imbibing their wisdom, I have expanded my morning ritual to include an abhyanga oil self-massage and a 2-minute cold shower. The oil massage is incredibly nourishing for my skin and body, and I have been learning about the health benefits of cold showering from Wim Hof

Some might look at this and wonder how I do it all. Some days, I have to be flexible and do meditation or exercise at lunchtime or in the evening. I also wake up naturally at about 5:45 a.m. and work from home, so I have a few hours before I need to be ready to see clients.

Having a supportive morning ritual helps me be the best version of myself for my clients. It fuels me for the day ahead and keeps me energised.

I love to read other people’s morning routines. Let me know if you have one that works for you in the comments.

Much love, Jen
