As a trauma therapist, I have done extensive work with dissociative parts of the psyche.
In my experience, dissociative parts are ALWAYS protective. They have developed under extreme circumstances to help keep the person safe. When you can’t run or fight, sometimes the only way ‘out’ is through dissociation.
What is the healing path?
As the system is gently updated (assuming present-day safety), the dissociative part learns that it doesn’t need to work so hard to keep you safe. It can relax and let other parts of you lead the way.
If you want to learn more about this process, let me know in the comments.
Much love, Jen
