Stop expecting yourself to have the same energy every day of the month.

Menstrual Phase 🌑 — Rest & Reflect

Your body is releasing. This is a time to slow down and honour your lower energy.

Best for:

  • Rest where possible
  • Reflection and journalling
  • Gentle planning
  • Early nights
  • Saying no to unnecessary commitments

Follicular Phase 🌱 — Create & Begin

Your energy starts to return. Your mind is fresh, curious and creative.

Best for:

  • Starting new projects
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Learning
  • Goal setting
  • Creative work

Ovulatory Phase ☀️ — Connect & Communicate

This is often your highest-energy phase. You naturally feel more confident and outward focused.

Best for:

  • Important meetings
  • Presentations
  • Difficult conversations
  • Networking
  • Collaborating with others

Luteal Phase 🍂 — Complete & Simplify

Your attention naturally turns inward. You’re more likely to notice details and loose ends.

Best for:

  • Editing
  • Finishing projects
  • Organising
  • Administration
  • Preparing for the next cycle

Over the years I have learnt that I work best if I’m aware of what my body is doing. It’s a level of energetic awareness.

I would notice some days I needed to go to bed early (was I getting ill?), and then I’d have so much energy for exercising, creating — and then it was gone again. It took me way too long to really understand that my body moves in cycles and to expect my energy levels to go up and down.

I’ve learned that when I work with my cycle instead of against it, everything feels easier. During my period, I don’t exercise, I try to finish work a little earlier, and I honour the fact that my body is naturally releasing. As my energy returns, I naturally move into creating, teaching and connecting with others. Then, towards the end of my cycle, I find myself wanting to finish projects, organise my space and slow down again.

A good friend of mine works in a country where women are encouraged to take four days’ leave during their menstrual cycle. Imagine living in a culture that recognised women’s biology instead of expecting them to ignore it.

Most of us don’t have that luxury, but we can start by noticing our own rhythm. We can stop judging ourselves for having flat days and begin honouring the incredible wisdom of our bodies that are deeply connected to the rhythm of nature.

You weren’t designed to have the same energy every day. You were designed to move through seasons.

Love, Jen 🪷
