You Don’t Have to Hold It All Anymore

A gentle reminder that you can set down the caretaking role you carried as a child of unstable parents.

If you grew up with unstable parents, it is common to have a part of you that was busy trying to stabilise them.

That might have meant watching out for them drinking too much or trying to be happy to counter their sadness.

As an adult, it is time to put them down. Gently. With care.

So you can breathe again.

When you grow up around instability, it’s natural to develop a part that tries to bring balance — the helper, the caretaker, the peacemaker.

You might have learned to sense every shift in mood, to manage chaos before it exploded, or to stay cheerful so others wouldn’t fall apart.

That part worked hard to keep you safe. But now, as an adult, it’s okay to set that role down. Gently. With love.

You don’t have to hold it all anymore. You get to rest. You get to breathe.

Love, Jen 🪷
